Ramadan is a month of spiritual cleansing and purification for Muslims in which we try to increase our worship, good deeds and acts of charity. The last ten days and nights hold even more significance as Allah shows great mercy to His creation. They are a chance to benefit from the immense blessings of Ramadan and seek salvation before the month comes to an end.
“Indeed, We revealed [the Qur’an] during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (97:1-5)
Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree or Night of Power, is one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar. It takes place in the last ten days of Ramadan and was the night in which the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is also believed to be the night in which Allah shows great mercy to His creation and the night in which one’s fate is decreed.
Allah says in the Qur’an, “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months,” (Qur’an, 97:3). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven,” (Bukhari and Muslim)
The companion Anas ibn Malik (R.A.) reported: “Ramadan approached, so the Messenger of God said: ‘This month has come to you, and in it there is a night that is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of it is deprived of all goodness, and no one is deprived of its goodness except one who is truly deprived.” (Al Hadith)
Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “It is written in Umm al-Kitab (the Heavenly copy of the Qur’an) during Laylatul-Qadr what shall come to pass in the following year of good and evil, sustenance, and lifespan. Even the pilgrimage of the pilgrim (shall be decided); it will be said ‘so-and-so will perform pilgrimage’ (on this night).” (Al Hadith)
Al-Hasan Al-Basri (d. 110 H), Mujahid (d. 104 H) and Qatadah (d. 117 H)—three renowned early Muslim scholars—shared this view and were reported to have said that “all the affairs of lifespan, deeds, creation, and provision are decreed on Laylatul-Qadr in the month of Ramadan and will come to pass in the coming year.”
Imam Al-Nawawi concluded his discussion on Laylatul-Qadr by saying: “It was named Laylatul-Qadr, meaning: the night of judgment and discernment (in the affairs of men). This meaning is what is true and popular.”
Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: “A person would attain the reward of the night, even if he has no knowledge of it. This is because the Prophet said ‘whoever stands (in prayer) during Laylatul-Qadr, with faith and hope, will be forgiven,’ and the Prophet did not make knowledge of the night a condition of their forgiveness. And had knowledge of the night become a necessary factor, the Prophet would have made this clear.” (Al Hadith)
There is Cure in Salah
Salat is one of the five fundamental obligations that a Muslim must do. In the Holy Quran, Salat is assigned the utmost priority. Salat has numerous benefits as revealed in Allah’s Book. Innassalata tanha anil fahsha’i, it states, “Surely prayer keeps one from indecency.” (29.46) We learn in chapter Luqman that when Hazrat Luqman was offering his son guidance, the first thing on his mind was to remind him, ya bunayya aqimissalat “O my dear son,! observe Prayer.” (31:8)
Physical Benefits of Salat
According to a Hadith the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) is reported to have said, inna fissalati shifa’a ” verily there is cure in salat.” According to a Muslim expert quoted in Tahazibul Akhlaq, Aligarh, India’s monthly Urdu magazine, a Muslim who offers salat on a regular basis has a very low risk of developing arthritis since we strengthen our bones and joints when offering salat. Regular exercise helps to lower cholesterol levels in the body. Cholesterol is linked to heart failure, strokes, diabetes, and a variety of other illnesses. It is well knowledge that those who work in occupations that entail physical activity have lower cholesterol levels.
Salah is a means of communicating directly with Almighty Allah. It also prevents a person from engaging in harmful activities or undesirable habits. Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha are the five daily prayers that must be performed at the appointed times. Islam requires that five times a day ceremonial prayers be observed.
Salat is an excellent form of exercise to prevent indigestion. In the morning when stomach is empty, a Muslim is required to offer fewer number of Rak’aat whereas in the evening after the dinner we offer an extra number of Rak’aat. By offering Takbir at the beginning of salat, we move hand and shoulder muscles thereby increasing the flow of blood towards torso. Akamat performs a similar function. The most important function in salat is sajdah where we touch the ground with our forehead. This posture increases fresh supply of blood to our brain. Needless to say in certain forms of yoga some adherents stand on their heads for the same purpose. In tashah’hud position, our hip, elbow, knee joints, backbone, wrist joints move in a way that it provides a form of relaxation to our entire body. Pressure is applied on the body parts as if it was a kind of massage which releases tension.
Heart in the body’s most significant organ. It provides all body tissues with fresh blood. These bodily motions during salat are also a good source of workout for our heart. According to a Hadith of the Holy Prophet (PBUH),” There is an organ in the body, when it is healthy, the whole body is healthy, and when this is sick, the entire body becomes sick”. It is the heart.
Cartilage is an unique tissue in our bodies. It’s one of a kind because it’s a living tissue that doesn’t have a direct blood supply. The only way it gets nourishment and oxygen is through joint movement. Blood is forced into the joint area by the pumping effect, which would otherwise be bypassed. Those who sit near the terminals are more likely to have dead cartilage tissues, which will eventually wear away. We can develop arthritis, aching joints, and paralysis as a result of this. Bacteria and viruses find a safe home in joints since no blood cell and, in most circumstances, antibodies can reach them. Salat, as a result, provides numerous orthopedic advantages for all Muslims. Thank Almighty Allah for making you a Muslim the next time you make salat. There is, in fact, a cure in salat.
Namaz (Salat) must to play five times a day as one of the five most fundamental pillars of Islam. Salah is an Arabic word that means “adoration,” an important act of worship that every Muslim has to perform. Salah is a concrete manifestation of adherence to Allah’s order, the evidence of Allah’s faith and Islam. Salah is the source of Almighty Allah’s direct communication. In addition, a person is abstained from negative deeds and wrong habits. Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha are five daily prayers that must be performed daily in their hour. Islam’s ceremonial prayers have to be kept five times a day.
Below mentioned are few of the Sayings of Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (SAW) related to the importance of Prayers. The following is reported from Abdullah bin Qurt (May Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “On the Day of Judgment, a slave will be questioned about his prayers first. If his prayers are good, his other deeds will be good, too. If his prayers are bad, his other deeds will be bad, too.” (Tabarani, Targhib)
The following is reported from Jabir Ibn Abdullah (R.A.): The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Between faith and unbelief is abandoning the prayer.” (Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Musnad)
An offering of Namaz 5 times during day and night cleanses us of sins in a similar way as washing multiple times during day and night makes our body clean of all rottenness and soil.
Allah Almighty stated in the Holy Quran about the Salah in these words:
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوا اسْتَعِيْنُوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلٰوةِ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ مَعَ الصّٰبِرِيْنَ
“O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer). Truly! Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.).” (Quran, 2:153)
Allah the Exalted said:
وَاسْتَعِيْنُوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلٰوةِ ؕ وَاِنَّهَا لَكَبِيْرَةٌ اِلَّا عَلَى الْخٰشِعِيْن
“And seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer) and truly it is extremely heavy and hard except for Al-Khashi’un [i.e. the true believers in Allah – those who obey Allah with full submission, fear much from His Punishment, and believe in His Promise (Paradise, etc.) and in His Warnings (Hell, etc.)” (Quran, 2:45)
Prayers that we perform have many benefits to our body, soul, and social life. Following are some of the benefits that prayers brings us: Prayer is the shield against evil deeds and bad habits. Allah Almighty says in the Noble Quran:
اُتْلُ مَاۤ اُوْحِىَ اِلَيْكَ مِنَ الْكِتٰبِ وَاَقِمِ الصَّلٰوةَ ؕ اِنَّ الصَّلٰوةَ تَنْهٰى عَنِ الْفَحْشَآءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِؕ وَلَذِكْرُ اللّٰهِ اَكْبَرُ ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُوْنَ
“Verily, prayer restrains (oneself) from shameful and unjust deeds.” (Quran, 29:45)
Invoking Allah Almighty through prayer is the favored method. When a person worships Allah, he or she forms a bond with Him, and any invocation made within or after that bond is more likely to be accepted by Allah than invocation made in any other situation. Prayers in Islam demonstrate equality. When Muslims gather in congregation to pray, they stand shoulder to shoulder, rich and poor, high and humble. In the faith of Islam, it is the most beautiful scene of humanity’s equality. Prayer satisfies our spiritual desire to communicate with God. This brings happiness and calm to the soul.
Those who pray five times a day become humble because Almighty Allah loves them and associates success with them. Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran:
قَدْ اَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَۙ
الَّذِيْنَ هُمْ فِىْ صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُوْنَ ۙ
“Successful indeed are the believers, who are humble in their prayers.” (Quran, 23:1-2)
Muslims become holy and follow the path of righteousness. Prayer has an important role in this regard since it encourages believers to practice Taqwa, or piety. Prayer protects one’s physical and spiritual well-being. The heart of those who say five daily prayers is strengthened by Allah Almighty’s trust. Praying is a way of creating a relationship with Allah Almighty, and when a Muslim prays five times a day, that relationship will naturally grow stronger. Muslims are saved from the wrath of God through prayer. For Muslims, the five daily prayers are a source of solace. A Muslim’s sins are forgiven, his good actions are duplicated, and he is brought closer to the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth by offering prayer. Those who pray every day can easily overcome their lethargy. Salah gives Allah’s blessings and mercy (SWT). Salah is a form of spiritual nutrition. Salah keeps us safe from harm. Salah is good for the heart. Salah boosts one’s physical stamina. Allah SWT bestows blessings on those who pray. Salah holds the Shaitan at bay.
The Prophet (SAW) said: “The key to Paradise is prayer; the key to prayer is wudu (ablution).” (Musnad Ahmad). A Muslim must realize that above anything, Salah is an obligation and every Muslim has to fulfill this obligation and get blessings from Almighty Allah.
The Virtues of Congregational Prayer
- 27 Times More Rewards Than Performing Individual Prayer
“Salat (prayer) in congregation is twenty-seven times more rewarding than a Salat performed individually.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
To look back to the life history of our Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and his Companions (R.A.), we undoubtedly would find that the Fardu prayer had never been left by our Prophet Muhammad and the companions, without prayer to a conglomerate in the Mosque. They would be praying at the assembly, unless they could not do so, such pandemics, strong rain and when the prayer in the mosque is too unsafe or uncomfortable for anyone. Only then will they reject the prayer of the crowd. - Gain Allah’s Pleasure
“A man’s prayer observed along with another is purer than his prayer observed alone, and his prayer with two men is purer than his prayer with just one, and whenever there are more, it is more pleasing to Allah, the Almighty.” (Sunan Abu Dawud) - Protection from the Syaitan (Devil)
“If three men in a village or in the desert, make no arrangement for Salat in congregation, Satan must have certainly overcome them. So observe Salat in congregation, for the wolf eats up a solitary sheep that stays far from the flock.” (Sunan Abu Dawud) - Foster our Kinship and Matrimonial Relationship
Allah (SWT) emphasizes the importance of guarding our Salat. In the middle of the verses from Surah Al-Baqarah regarding familial relationship and matrimonial affairs (i.e. verse 223-242), Allah (SWT) mentions in Surah Al-Baqarah:
حافِظوا عَلَى الصَّلَواتِ وَالصَّلاةِ الوُسطىٰ وَقوموا لِلَّهِ قانِتينَ
“Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind).” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:238)
Sheik Dr Wahbah Az-Zuhaili believes that the important fact that salad protects family members, like the husbands and women, from ill thoughts and guards against all forms of evil and whispering in Syaitan is one of the reason why God mentions that our salad should be protected in the middle of verses that pertain to family relations. Unless you are careful, this may generate discrepancies between families and marriages.
Praying in a congregation with family members will stop members from succumbing to Syaitan’s whisperings even more. Furthermore, congregational prayers build community kinship because we tend to salam one another after each salat, which can help to dissipate the fire of animosity and animosity that might grow over time and fill our hearts with rahmah (mercy) and ihsan (empathy and sympathy). - Reward Those Who Participate in Congregational Prayers throughout Their Prayers.
When praying alone, Sheikh Daud Al-Fathani claims that the rewards of prayer are only granted during the parts of prayers in which one retains his or her khusyu (presence and focus in-prayer). Those who pray in congregation, on the other hand, receive full rewards, even if they struggle to maintain ‘khusyu’ for the entire hour of congregational prayer.
The Mystery of Ablution and its Importance
Allah the Almighty said, “That is, O believers! When you are ready for the prayer, wash your face and your hands up to the elbows, and massage your head. And wash both feet up to the ankles.” (Quran Majeed 5/6)
Ablution is obligatory for prayer in order to purify oneself from impurity. In this regard, the Prophet (peace be upon him) also said, “Allah does not accept anyone’s prayer until the ablution is broken and the ablution is repeated.” (Bukhari, Muslim, Sahih Mishkat No. 300)
Several hadiths have been narrated regarding the greatness and virtue of ablution. In a hadith, he said, “On the Day of Resurrection, my Ummah will be called; At that time, their faces and hands and feet will be radiant as a result of ablution.” (Bukhari 138, Muslim, Sahih No. 248)
In another hadith, he said, “As far as the water of ablution reaches, the believer’s body will be adorned with ornaments (jyoti).” (Muslim, Sahih No. 250)
The Prophet (SAW) added, “When a Muslim or a believer washes his face for the purpose of ablution, with the water of ablution or with the last drop of water, every sin that he has committed through the sight of two eyes comes out. Then when he washes his hands, every sin that he has committed with both hands comes out with the water or with the last drop of water. Then when he washes his walking on his feet comes out with the water or with the last drop of water. He is cleansed from all sin until the end.” (Malek, Muslim No. 244, Tirmidhi)
The Beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “The eight gates of Paradise are opened for any one of you who performs a complete ablution and recites (the following); He can enter through any door.”
“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I do not associate anything with Him, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.”
The Secret of Wearing Clothes on the Ankles
Science says that a man’s ankles contain a lot of hormones and he needs light and air. So if someone covers it without leaving it open, his sexual energy will be reduced and he will be infected with various diseases.
Narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that the part of the lungi (pajama-pants) which is below the ankle will go to hell.” (Bukhari Sharif, b. 2, p. 61)
Narrated by Ibn ‘Umar (R.A.): The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Whoever wears his clothes very low [below the ankles” out of arrogance, Allah will not look upon him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection. [Bukhari Sharif, b. 2, p. 60]
Narrated by Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.): “I heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that the best way for the believers to wear pajamas is to wear them up to the knees. That is, if it is up to the middle of the ankle or half of the knee or between the ankles, it will not be a sin, it is valid. Whatever is below it will go to hell (its end is hell).”
The narrator said that the Prophet (PBUH) said this three times. Then he said, “Allah Ta’ala will not even look up at the person who is overwhelmed with arrogance and old age and walks around with his clothes on.” (Abu Dawood Sharif, Ibn Majah Sharif)
Allah says-
“What Allah has given to His Messenger from the people of the towns is for Allah, His Messenger, his relatives, the orphans, the needy and the wayfarer, so that wealth may not be amassed only among your rich. Accept what the Messenger gives you, and refrain from what he forbids, and fear God. Surely Allah is severe in requiting (evil).” (Surat al-Hashr: 6)
In the Holy Qur’an, Allah Ta’ala says: “Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits, He will admit him into the Fire.” He will be there forever. For him is a humiliating punishment.” (Surat an-Nisa ‘: 14)
Allah Ta’ala commands us: “O you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from the Fire whose fuel is men and stones, with hard-hearted angels. They do not disobey what Allah commands, and they do what they are commanded to do.” (Surat at-Tahrim: 6)
Allah the Almighty says: “On the Day when their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire; On that day they will say, Alas. If only we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger.” (Surat al-Ahzab: 6)
Miswak Mystery
Islam attaches special importance to cleanliness. Surprisingly, cleanliness is also a special part of worship and a prerequisite for worship to be accepted. The importance of mouth and teeth in terms of cleanliness is immense. Regarding cleaning the face, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Keep your face clean.” (Al Hadith)
Miswak is the branch of a tree. With which the teeth are brushed and cleaned. Cleaning teeth through miswak is a very pleasing thing in the sight of Allah. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took special care of it and urged the ummah a lot. In this connection, the hadith narrated by Hazrat Abu Umama (R.A.) is particularly significant, he said: “On the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: It never happened that Jibraeel (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me and did not order me to miswak. I was worried that (because of miswak) I would not have the tip of my face.”
Every work of man has the guidance of the Sunnah Nawabi. Miswak is an important Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Miswak has the benefit of this and the hereafter.
“Miswak is a means of cleansing the face and a means of pleasing Allah.” (Nasai Sharif, Hadith No. 5)
In another hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: The prayers performed by miswak have seventy times more virtues than the prayers without miswak.” (Shuabul Iman, Baihaqi, Hadith No. 2519)
Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said once on a Friday, “O Community of Muslims! Allah has made this day an ‘Eid for you, so take a bath and needfully brush your teeth with miswak (toothstick).”(Tabarani, Majma’uz-Zawaid)
Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “If somebody eats or drinks forgetfully then he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk, has been given to him by God. Miswak is purification for the mouth and it is a way of seeking the acceptance of Allah.”
Allamah Ibn Ismail says: “It surprises me how people could forgo such a great Sunnah, the significance of which many Ahadith of our Prophet (peace be upon him) explain. Remember that it is a great loss to neglect the miswak.”
Ibn Umar (R.A.) narrates that the Messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Make a regular practice of the miswak, for verily, it is healthy for the mouth and it is a Pleasure for the Creator (Allah is pleased with the Muslim who uses the miswak).” (Bukhari)
The Perfume Mubarak of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)
Hazrat Anas (R.A.) said that the color of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was bright, his sweat was blessed like pearls. He used to walk leaning forward. I have not touched any silk softer than his hand. I have not found in any meshak-amber more fragrant than his fragrance.
Hazrat Jabir ibn Samura (R.A.) said: “I performed the Fajr prayer with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and then he was on his way to Mubarak. On the way, he put his hands on the faces of all the children he saw, at one stage on my face as well. I felt such tenderness and fragrance that it was as if he had just brought Mubarak out of the perfume box.” (Muslim)
Narrated by Anas Ibn Malik (R.A.), “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah has created the pure ‘red rose’ to spread the fragrance of all His Prophets (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them). Huzur Nabi Karim (SAW) has said: – Whoever wants to get the fragrance of me, let him take the fragrance of red rose flower.”(Nuhatul Majlis, Volume 2)
Narrated by Urwa bin Masood (R.A.), “Whenever the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) spat Mubarak, one of the Companions would take it in his hand and spit it on Mubarak’s face and body.” (Bukhari Sharif, Volume 1)
Hazrat Umm Sulaiman (may Allah be pleased with her), the mother of Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with her), was resting in a bottle filled with the sweat of the beloved Prophet (PBUH). The beloved Prophet woke up and asked, “O Umm Sulaiman, what are you doing?” He prayed, O Messenger of Allah! It’s your sweat Mubarak that will blend into our fragrance. This is the best fragrance.” (Bukhari)
Miracles Performed by the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)
The beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has innumerable miracles. Which cannot be concluded by writing or describing. These miracles were witnessed by many people. For example:
The Qur’an: Of all the miracles that have been given to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) by Allah, the greatest miracle is the Qur’an. When the disbelievers asked the Prophet (SAW) for a miracle, Allah replied, “Is it not enough for them that I have sent down to Muhammad the Book which is recited to them?” (Surat al-Ankabut). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “People believe in the miracles that Allah has bestowed on the Prophets. But one of the miracles that Allah has given me is the Qur’an, by which I hope to have the most followers on the Day of Resurrection. He challenged this Qur’an, saying that no one can compose a surah like this.”
Hadith: After the Qur’an, the great miracle of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is ‘Hadith’. Because a person who has never read, written or learned a word from anyone in the world, how can constructive words and sayings be uttered by Mubarak? He gave guidance on faith, transactions, manners, good character building, social life, family life, the rights of God, the rights of human beings, the world and the Hereafter, etc., which have become the main documents of success in this world and the hereafter. If a person wants to know about the beloved Prophet (PBUH) till the Day of Resurrection, he will be able to know very well from the Hadith.
The Crescent of the Moon: Once the Prophet (peace be upon him) was present in Mina. Many infidels were also present there. The disbelievers asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for a miracle. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Look at the sky.’ They looked up at the sky and saw that the moon had split in two. The hill in the middle. After looking closely at all the disbelievers, the moon has become one again. But the unfortunate disbelievers have also denied this visual miracle.
Confession of Prophethood: A woman came to the Prophet with her young son and said, O Messenger of Allah! My son has not spoken since birth. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, ‘O young man, tell me who I am. At once he said, “You are the true prophet of Allah.” (Baihaqi Sharif).
Confession of the Prophethood of a One-day-old Child: During the Farewell Hajj, a man from Yamama brought a child to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The baby was born that day. Seeing the child, Nabiji asked, ‘O child, tell me who I am. The child immediately said, “You are the true Prophet and Messenger of Allah.” The beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “You have told the truth.” May Allah bless you in your old age.”
Greeting the Trees and the Mountains: Hazrat Ali (R.A.) said, “Once I was walking with the Prophet (peace be upon him) in an alley of Makkah. I saw the word ‘Assalamu Alaika Ya Rasoolullah’ coming from the mountains and trees that are coming in front.”
Blessings of Halima Sa’dia (R.A.)’s Camel and Her House: Hazrat Halima Sa’dia (R.A.) said, “When I was going to Madinah with the women of my area for a suckling child, my camel was very weak and feeble.” Which was going on behind everyone. But when I was returning home with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the camel became strong. First of all, it came at a fast pace. “The goats in my house had very little milk,” he added. But when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to my house, my goats were full of milk. Even my neighbors started telling me that we also graze goats in the same place. Our goats do not get so much milk.”
Water Coming Out with the Tip of the Finger: “The water ran out during the treaty of Hudaibia. As a result, 1,500 people were in a lot of trouble. When a mug of water was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his blessed hand in it. Then water started coming out of Nabiji’s finger like a fountain. Then everyone performed ablution and drink. They took care of their needs and put them in their own containers. (Bukhari, Tirmidhi)
Reading Tawheed in the Blackness of the Tree: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was on a journey. A villager was passing by the Prophet. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him, ‘Where are you going?’ He said I was going home. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, ‘Do you need goodness?’ He said, what good? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Say Kalima Tawheed.’ He said, who else is the witness of this Kalima? Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called a tree. The tree immediately ran to the Prophet. He (peace be upon him) said to the tree, “Say Kalima.” That tree said Kalima three times. Then the villager said, I will go home and bring everyone. We will all embrace Islam. If not everyone comes, I will come to you alone.” (Ibn Sa’d).
The Simple Life of Muhammad (S.A.W.)
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was a great liberal and humble personality to be imitated and followed by mankind. He is the only source of good character and generosity. Nabi Karim (S.A.W.) is a social reformer, a brave warrior, a skilled administrator, a worthy statesman and a successful preacher.
He is the best ideal in every good deed. Recognizing his extraordinary sweetness and incomparable personality, the Holy Qur’an has said, “There is a good example for you in the Messenger of God.” (Surah Al-Ahzab: 21).
He was able to become the confidant of the barbaric Arab nation with his unforgettable forgiveness, generosity, humility, honesty, etc. That is why they awarded him the title of ‘Al-Amin’ or Faithful. They have unanimously acknowledged that he was humble and virtuous. He has been able to subdue the people of the world not by money but by his good behavior and honesty. Concerning His attributes, Allah has declared, “Surely you are of a noble character.” (Surah Al-Kalam: 4)
He never despised or despised people out of self-respect. By treating all people irrespective of race, religion, caste, creed and opinion, he has established an incomparable ideal of superior character in the heart of the world. Humility and modesty were always present in his character. He was sent to earth for the welfare of the world as an implementer and trainer of the best ideals. In this regard, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I have been sent to fulfill the perfection of good character.” (Musnad Ahmad, Mishkat)
The paradise environment will prevail in every one of our families only when we follow the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Following and imitating that ideology will remove all unrest from the society and the country. That is why the great Lord declares in the Qur’an:
“Surely there is the best example for you in the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Those who hope in Allah and the Last Day, and remember Allah much.”
He was the greatest ideal man of all time, having a selfless, humble, kind, simple and unpretentious life. Once a man came to the court of the Prophet Karim (peace be upon him) and noticed his tough personality and seriousness and started trembling with fear.
The search for such a rare personality has never matched in the history of the world. In this way, he issued a stern warning to the people, saying, “Allah has sent down revelation to me instructing me to be humble and humble.” Let no one follow the path of pride and arrogance over others and let no one oppress anyone.” (Muslim)
He was largely self-sufficient. He would not be dependent on anyone for his own needs. He used to repair shoes with his own hands and sew clothes. He used to grind flour by helping the servants. He used to make bread with his own hands and eat it with his family. He used to bring it from the market by bargaining. If any member of the family asked for help in any work, he would respond for help.
When asked about his family activities, Hazrat Ayesha (R.A.) said, “Rasulullah (S.AW) used to be engaged in the welfare of the family while he was at home. When it was time for prayers, he would get up for prayers. He divided the time of day and night into three parts. One part used to worship. The other part of the family did all the housework. And he used to spend a part of his time in the public service of the poor and needy. If there was no emergency, this rule would not have been violated.” (Al Hadith)
“Despite his responsibilities as a prophet, a teacher, a statesman, and a judge, Muhammad used to milk his goat, mend his clothes, repair his shoes, help with the household work, and visit poor people when they got sick. He also helped his companions in digging a trench by moving sand with them. His life was an amazing model of simplicity and humbleness.” (Mosnad Ahmad, 25662; Saheeh Al-Bukhari, 676; Mosnad Ahmad, 25517; Saheeh Al-Bukhari, 676; Mosnad Ahmad, 23706; Mowatta’ Malek, 531; Saheeh Al-Bukhari, 3034; Saheeh Muslim, 1803; and Mosnad Ahmad, 18017)
“Muhammad’s followers loved him, respected him, and trusted him to an amazing extent. Yet he continued to emphasize that deification should be directed to God and not to him personally. Anas, one of Muhammad’s companions, said that there was no person whom they loved more than the Prophet Muhammad , yet when he came to them, they did not stand up for him because he hated their standing up for him, as other people do with their great people.” (Mosnad Ahmad, 12117 and Al-Tirmizi, 2754)
The Following are some of these verses:
تَنْزِيْلٌ مِّنَ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِۚ
كِتٰبٌ فُصِّلَتْ اٰيٰتُهٗ قُرْاٰنًا عَرَبِيًّا لِّقَوْمٍ يَّعْلَمُوْنَۙ
بَشِيْرًا وَّنَذِيْرًا ۚ فَاَعْرَضَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُوْنَ
“A revelation from (God), the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful; a Book whereof the verses are explained in detail; a Quran in Arabic, for people who know, giving good news and warning, yet most of them turn away, so they do not listen.” (Quran, 41:2-4)
“On another occasion and in response to his uncle’s plea to stop calling people to Islam, Muhammad (S.A.W.)’s answer was as decisive and sincere: {I swear by the name of God, O Uncle!, that if they place the sun in my right-hand and the moon in my left-hand in return for giving up this matter (calling people to Islam), I will never desist until either God makes it triumph or I perish defending it.”} (Al-Serah Al-Nabaweyyah, Ibn Hesham, vol. 1, pp. 265-266)
The Beauty of Deen Islam
Faith is the pillar of Islamic brotherhood. As a result, regardless of his country or language, a believer will offer his hand of harmony, love, sympathy, and collaboration to another believer. The following is taken from the Qur’an:
ِّنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ ِْخْوَةٌ فَاَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ اََخَوَيْكُمْ.
“Believers are brothers. So make peace between your brothers.” (Surah Hujurat, 49: 10)
In another verse Allah has said-
“Believing men and believing women are all friends of each other.” (Surah Tawba, 9: 61)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“For example, in the case of Tawad, they are the same as the body. The example of the believers in the matter of harmony, amity and sympathy is like that of a body, when one of its limbs is sick, the whole body suffers from fever and insomnia.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 8011; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 256)
In another hadith Irshad has said-
“The believer is a mirror for the believer. Mumin is the brother of Mumin. He reserves his land and takes care of it in his absence.” (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 4917)
Islam’s limitless beauty is that it inspires Muslims to reach the pinnacle of brotherhood. Self-sacrifice for the sake of the brother is likewise encouraged by Iman.
At the start of Islam, the Muslims of Makkah were in a tough condition. Their tribe’s unfairness and oppression led them to flee their homeland. Medina’s Muslims then presented a beautiful example of collaboration and compassion. Despite their own necessities and poverty, they sacrificed their wealth and self-interest for the Muslim brothers of the destitute Muhajir.
Allah has ordered in the Holy Qur’an for people to choose this attribute of altruism:
وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَى َْنْفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ.
“They (the Ansar) prefer (the Muhajirs) over themselves. Although they have their own needs and shortcomings.” (Surah Hashr, 59:9)
In Surat al-Dahr, Allah mentions some of the special blessings of the Holy Paradise and says about the characteristics of the possessors of these blessings:
“And the food is for the poor.(Those who will get all these blessings) and those who give food to the poor, orphans and prisoners despite their (own) interest. We feed you only for the pleasure of Allah. We do not ask you for any reward or gratitude.” (Surah Dahar 6: 6-9)
In another verse, good deeds and virtues are described as follows:
و لكن البر من امن بالله و الیوم الاخر و الملىكة و الكتب و النبین و اتی المال علی حبه ذوی القربی و الیتمی و المسكین و ابن السبیل و السآىلین و فی الرقاب.
“Rather, the virtue is that man will believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book of (Allah) and the Prophets, and (his) wealth in spite of his love for his relatives, orphans, poor travelers and beggars, and freedom from slavery.” (Surah Baqara, 2:17)
This harmony and cooperation is directed towards the path of taqwa and welfare, justice and legitimate work. Irshad of Kareem in the Quran-
“Cooperate with one another in piety and justice. Do not cooperate in wickedness and injustice.” (Sura Maeda, 6: 02)
“Helping one’s own people for justice and welfare is not an unjust communalism. Prohibited sectarianism is to co-operate with the people in oppression and injustice. Once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked, ‘What is‘ asabiyat ’(i.e. sectarianism)? He replied, to help his people in their unjust injustice.” (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 5119)
So partisanship in the case of injustice is sectarianism, which is strictly forbidden in Islam. Irshad has-
“There is no one who prays to my nerves, and there is no one who kills on my nerves, and there is no one who does not die on my nerves. Anyone who calls for Asabiyat or fights for Asabiyat or dies over Asabiyat is not one of us.” (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 5121)
As a result, Islam’s unambiguous admonition is that Muslims should labor together in the service of taqwa and welfare. Maintain a spirit of love and camaraderie among yourselves, and desist from supporting or cooperating with those who are unfair.
Here are a few details from the Companions’ enlightened biography to help you grasp this noble Islamic ideal of selfless control over one’s own brother in spite of one’s own demands, so that you can have a real and clear picture of this message. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) may be seen in his work and sacred biography from the beginning.
Narrated by Hazrat Sahl bin Saad (R.A.), he said, “A female Companion brought a beautifully decorated cloth for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as a gift. I made it myself.” I’d be happy to wear it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) accepted the cloth. He also needed clothes. When he came out of the house wearing it as a lungi, a man said, very nice clothes! Will you give it to me? Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went back to the house, opened it, folded it, and sent for the man. Seeing this scene, the other disciples rebuked the man and said, “Hey! Don’t you know that Nabiji needs the cloth? And he doesn’t say ‘no’ when anyone wants something. He replied, “I know everything, yet I wanted to make my own shroud with the cloth blessed by the touch of his blessed body.” The narrator said that after the death of the man, he was buried in that cloth.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 128, 2093, 5610, 6037)
This is merely an episode in the Prophet (S.A.W.)’s life. According to his holy biography, he dedicated his entire life to the cause of Islam. He never considered his own interests or pleasures. He was always concerned about the Ummah’s needs and well-being. Whenever he accumulated fortune, he would patiently transfer it to the poor and needy.
According to a narration, a man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and asked for something. He said to the supplicant, “Now I have nothing to give. You take a loan from someone in my name according to your need. In my hand, I will actually repay the loan.” Hearing this, Hazrat Umar (R.A.) He said, O Messenger of Allah! God has not instructed you to do anything beyond your means; Rather, I give something to the supplicant. The Prophet (PBUH) did not like what Hazrat Umar (R.A.) said. At that moment an Ansari Companion said, O Messenger of Allah! You continue to donate as you wish. Don’t be afraid to go down to the great archbishop. The Prophet was very happy with his words and smiled. He said, “I have been ordered to do so.” (Shamaile Tirmidhi (355) (Shaykh Muhammad Awamah Tahaqiq) Musnad Bazaar (263); Almukhtarah, Zia Makdisi (6); Mazmauz Zawaid 10/242)
“A hungry helpless man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and told him about his condition. He sent for his wives and asked if there was any food in the house. News came from everyone, there is nothing in the house except water. Then the Prophet (PBUH) asked the Companions, ‘Which of you is ready to entertain this person today?’ Ansari Sahabi Abu Talha (R.A.). He stood up and said, I am. He took her to his home. He said to his wife, “She is the guest of the Prophet (PBUH). Tell me what food is in the house? The wife said there was little food for the children. Nothing more. He said, “Well, you prepare it for the guest.” And put the kids to sleep. And listen, after giving food in front of the guest, he will turn it off on the pretext of fixing the lamp. The wife prepared everything. After presenting the food in front of the guests, the lamp was extinguished as mentioned earlier. Both husband and wife pretended in the dark that they were eating together. Thus they tried to please the guest by fasting the whole family. In the morning when Abu Talha. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said to him, ‘Allah is very pleased with the way your husband and wife treated the guest last night.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 3798, 469; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2054)
“After the migration from Makkah to Madinah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) officially established brotherhood between the Muhajireen and the Ansar Sahabis. He also specified who the Muhajir and Ansar would live with for the sake of good discipline. Abdur Rahman bin Awf established a brotherhood with the Ansari Companion Sa’d bin Rabi. He took Abdur Rahman bin Auf home. Then he addressed him and said, brother Abdur Rahman! You own half of my property from today. And listen, I have two wives. Tell whomever you like, I will divorce him. At the end of the waiting period, you will be married to him. Abdur Rahman bin Auf (R.A.) He replied, “Brother Sa’d!” May Allah bless your wealth and your family. Keep everything to yourself. Just show me the market street. I want to do business. Sa’d bin Rabi (R.A.), Banu Kaynukar showed him the market. He went there and started buying and selling. I made some money on the first day. With that he bought some ghee and butter to eat. Thus his business began to improve day by day. He gradually became prosperous through his own earnings. He then married an Ansari woman.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 517; Musnad Ahmad, Hadith 1363; Musnad Abd Ibn Humaid, Hadith 1333)
The Ansar Sahabis’ self-sacrifice for the Muslim brothers and the sincere gratitude on the part of the Muhajirs was widespread.
Narrated by Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A), “The Companions of the Ansar said to the Prophet (PBUH), “Distribute our date orchards equally between the Muhajir brothers and us.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) rejected their offer. So the Ansar said to the emigrants, “You will only help us in farming and we will give you a share of the harvest.” Eventually they all agreed to the proposal.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 2325, 2619)
Narrated by Hazrat Anas (R.A.), “Muhajir brothers said to the Prophet (PBUH): ‘O Messenger of Allah! We have never seen a better man than the brothers to whom we have taken refuge. They sympathize with us even in the smallest matters and give up a lot of resources for us. We just cooperate with their garden and land work. That is why they give us an equal share of the crop. We fear that they will take away all the reward (of the Hereafter). The Prophet (S.A.W.) said, “No.” As long as you are grateful to them and pray for them. (You too will be rewarded.).” (Musnad Ahmad, Hadith 13075; Sunan Nasa’i)
According to a narration from Hazrat Anas (R.A) (after the conquest of Bahrain),” The Prophet (S.A.W.) wanted to write down all the spoils of war in the name of the Ansar Companions. They disagreed with the proposal. He appealed that the same amount of wealth that would be given to us should also be given to the brothers of Muhajir. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “If you do not agree to take anything (except the emigrants), then be patient until you meet me at the House of Kawthar.” Because, in the future, others will be given priority over you in various matters.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 3794, 237, 237)
Lessons From Prophet Yusuf (A.S.)
Life is full of obstacles, and no human being on the planet is immune to adversity in some form or another. Even the prophets were put to the test when they lost their wealth, health, or loved ones.
“Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said, “When is the help of Allah?” Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near.” (Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 214)
Prophet Yusuf (A.S.) was thrown into a well by his enraged older siblings when he was a youngster, which resulted in him being separated from his beloved father Prophet Yaacob (A.S.) for many years, becoming a slave, and being imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. What was Prophet Yusuf’s response to the several problems he faced?
In Islam, patience (sabr) is a multifaceted virtue that includes endurance, steadfastness, and diligence, among other things. Prophet Yusuf (A.S.) was not able to confront his older brothers until he was in his adulthood, when he was reunited with his father and youngest brother Bunyamin. He showed a lot of sabr throughout his journey.
By refusing to be tempted by his master’s wife, Prophet Yusuf (A.S.) was imprisoned. He had resorted to Allah when he had to make a decision.
“He said, “My Lord, prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. And if You do not avert from me their plan, I might incline toward them and [thus] be of the ignorant.” (Surah Yusuf: 33)
He had determined that jail was preferable to remaining on God’s path, and that Allah (S.W.T.) was always the superior option.
Prophet Yusuf (A.S.) was designated as the King’s personal counselor years after he was imprisoned. Despite being in a position of power over his older siblings, he forgave them for their earlier ignorance and sins towards him when he ran into them in maturity.
“He said, ‘No blame will there be upon you today. Allah will forgive you, and He is the most merciful of the merciful.” (Surah Yusuf: 92)
This one should be self-explanatory. In his early years, Prophet Yusuf (A.S.) encountered numerous obstacles. He did not, however, fall beneath the weight of his challenges, even after he was in prison for long years. Instead, he was able to pick himself up, brush himself off, and keep walking down the right path in the face of hardship.
Prophet Yusuf (A.S.) was a self-aware individual who understood his own talents and flaws. He chose to go to prison rather than be tempted by his master’s wife Zulaikha since he was aware of his own faults. He made a pitch to be nominated by the King by being conscious of his own strengths, such as his knowledge of particular subjects.
“Yusuf said, ‘Appoint me over the storehouses of the land. Indeed, I will be a knowing guardian.” (Surah Yusuf, Verse 55)
As a result of his self-awareness, he was able to face life’s obstacles with honesty, morality, and assurance. Continue to be patient after we’ve done everything we can to better our position. Because the difficulties we endure are actually chances for us to strengthen our confidence in Allah (S.W.T.).
After all, Allah (S.W.T.) has promised that the difficulties we face in life are only temporary and that we shall be freed of them in some way.
Allah Says in Quran:
فَلَمَّاۤ اَنْ جَآءَ الْبَشِيْرُ اَلْقٰٮهُ عَلٰى وَجْهِهٖ فَارْتَدَّ بَصِيْرًا ؕۚ قَالَ اَلَمْ اَقُل لَّـكُمْ ۚ ۙ اِنِّىْۤ اَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ
“Then when the bearer of good news came and put the shirt over his face, he regained his sight. He said, “Did I not tell you that I know from Allah that which you do not know?” (Surah Yusuf: 96)
