The commandment of Islam regarding playing music
According to Islamic law, singing and listening to music is haraam and grave sins. Whatever the song. However, it is permissible to recite and listen to Hamd, Naat, Qasida, Ghazal, etc. on the attributes of Allah Ta’ala without playing musical instruments. The verses of the Qur’an regarding the prohibition of music are as follows:
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا
“And some of mankind unknowingly buy nonsense to mislead people from the way of Allah, and they take it as a joke.” (Surah Luqman, 31: 7)
Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is a song. Imam Hasan Jari (RA) said: It has been revealed in song and music.
Allah says:
وَاسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُمْ بِصَوْتِكَ
“Persuade whomever you can with your voice.” (Surah Bani Isra’il, 18:84.)
In the explanation of this verse, on page 15/6 of Tafsir Ibn Jarir, Allama Ibn Jarir Tabari Rahmatullahi Alaihi has narrated that:
Hadrat Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The meaning of the word Satan is that any caller to Allah calls to oppose him. The saheeh of these opinions is that any word that calls to the devil, his actions and obedience to the command, and contrary to the call of his captives, will be included in the words of the devil. This means that Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) has taken a wide range of meanings, that is, music. Hadrat Ibn Jarir, may Allah have mercy on him, has supported this broad meaning.”
Another verse related to the prohibition of music is verse 61 of Surah An-Najm. Allah Almighty has said:
“Are you joking or are you wondering and laughing at this (of the Qur’an) and not crying while you are playing music?” (Surah An-Najm: 53-81.) The reason for the revelation of this verse is mentioned in Tafsir Ibn Jarir, Volume 27, Page 43/44:
Hazrat Qatada (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated it from Hazrat Akram (may Allah be pleased with him), he narrated it from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It means music or music, when the infidels listened to the Qur’an, played music and played games, it is the language of the Yemenis. “
In the commentary of the said verse, it is mentioned in Tafseer Durre Mansur that:
Hazrat Abdur Razzaq ‘Fariyabi, Abu Ubaid, Abd Ibn Humaid, Ibn Abiduniya, Bajjaj, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Munjir, Ibn Abi Hatem and Bayhaqi Rahmatullahi Alaihim they are the words of Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Narrated from him, he said, in the language of the people of Yemen (the word Thamud) means – music. When the disbelievers used to listen to the Qur’an, play music and play games. “Therefore, this verse proves that music is the work of the disbelievers. Which is completely forbidden in Islamic law. ”
Harmful aspects of music
Islam does not forbid anything if there is nothing harmful in it. There are many kinds of harmful things in music and playing. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said about this:
“Music is the wine of the nafs: just as wine harms man, so does music harm man. When the music overwhelms them, they fall head over heels. And then they are ready to commit prostitution and oppression. They continue to engage in shirk and those who are forbidden to be slaughtered. Gina continues to do. Most of the people who play music have these three faults. Most of them whistle and clap their hands.”
Signs of Shirk
Most of them love their singers as much as Allah or more.
The song is the way of Jinna. As a result, the majority of prostitution takes place in the song majlis. Men, boys, girls, and women became extremely self-reliant and shameless in there. As a result, listening to music is harmful to one’s health. Then it becomes easier for them to engage in prostitution, which is comparable to or even more dangerous than drinking alcohol.
Listening to music has no benefit for the heart; rather, it causes misdirection and loss, which is more harmful than gain. It’s just as bad for the soul as it is for the body. As a result, music listeners are more addicted to it than alcoholics. The enjoyment they derive from it is far greater than the intoxication. Satan has a game with them as well. Then, while still in this state, they enter the fire, where someone places hot iron in their bodies or tongues, or does something similar. This condition does not occur when they pray or recite the Qur’an. Because these are the acts of worship prescribed by the law, the Prophet’s work of faith. Work is what keeps the devil at bay. In the name of worship, the others are bidat. It includes shirk and satanic work, as well as philosophers’ work, in order to attract the devils. The iron rod, the Prophet, and the Companions all refused to enter the body. They would have been at the forefront if this work had been good. Those people are far removed from Allah’s remembrance. They also practice polytheism when attempting to save their forefathers from danger. Because Allah says:
“And for the one who turns away from the remembrance of the Most Merciful, I appoint a devil, so that he becomes a companion of the devil. And surely they (the devil) hinder the people from the way of Allah. But people think they are guided.” (Surah Al-Zukhruf: 38).
Allah Ta’ala has appointed the devil for them so that they may go astray. Allah Ta’ala says in Quran: “Whosoever is in error shall be helped by the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”
It is not surprising that Satan helps them. Because, Sulaiman (AS): sought the help of a jinn, to lift the throne of Queen Bilkis. The Qur’an says:
قَالَ عِفْرِيْتٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ اَنَا اٰتِيْكَ بِهٖ قَبْلَ اَنْ تَقُوْمَ مِنْ مَّقَامِكَۚ وَاِنِّىْ عَلَيْهِ لَـقَوِىٌّ اَمِيْنٌ
“A strong jinn said, I will bring it before you get up from your place. I must be in this matter.”(Surah Naml:39).
Ibn Battuta and others, have witnessed far more horrific events than the ingestion of fire-worshipers’ iron rods, despite the fact that they were infidels. As a result, this is not a miracle. Rather, it is the case of those devils who get together to play music in this manner. The majority of those who enter the body are found to be involved in various types of sins. They even openly link shirk with Allah. Because they beg their forefathers and mothers for assistance.
Playing songs in modern times
In modern times, most songs are performed at weddings or other festivals, as well as on radio and television. The majority of them are based on love, kissing, and meeting new people. It includes descriptions of the face, forehead, and other body parts that arouse young men’s minds and motivate them to commit adultery and fornication. And it tarnishes their persona. With their obscene and nude pictures, they destroy the character of the youth. Every prophet, it is said, has a specific role to play, and O Muhammad! This is where the throne is! Accept it and move on. The last word of this sentence has been misspelled in Allah’s and His Messenger’s names, and the root is incorrect. Because neither the Prophet (S) nor his Lord will allow him to accept the throne.
Fitnah of girls by the melodious voice
Of the Companion Barah Ibn Salek (R.A.), the voice was sweet. On some journeys he used to sing religious songs while accompanying the Prophet (S). Once when he was singing, and the women approached him, the Prophet (S) said to him: “Beware of girls! As a result, he became silent. The Prophet (S) did not like the girls to hear his voice.” (Hakeem)
If the Prophet (S) feared that going to the garden and reciting poems to the tune would cause fitnah among the women, what would he say if he heard the music that women today listen to on the radio and television? These singers are typically involved in various forms of debauchery and nudity, and the poems they recite with various descriptions of the body elicit a wide range of moods and emotions. As a result, they develop a heart disease that encourages them to forget about their shame and engage in arrogance. If this song contains a mix of inebriated melodies, it will perplex their intellect. It hurts as much as it hurts after drinking alcohol for those who are addicted to this song. In the heart, music creates hypocrisy. Ibn Masood (R.A.) said: “Music creates hypocrisy in the heart, just as water creates grass. Zikr creates faith in the heart, just as water produces crops.”
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “A person who is always busy playing music will also have hypocrisy in his heart, even though he will not feel it. If he had understood the reality of hypocrisy, he would have seen its reflection in his heart. Because in no case can the love of song and the love of Qur’an be inserted together in the heart of a servant.”
