Miswak Mystery

Islam attaches special importance to cleanliness. Surprisingly, cleanliness is also a special part of worship and a prerequisite for worship to be accepted. The importance of mouth and teeth in terms of cleanliness is immense. Regarding cleaning the face, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Keep your face clean.” (Al Hadith)
Miswak is the branch of a tree. With which the teeth are brushed and cleaned. Cleaning teeth through miswak is a very pleasing thing in the sight of Allah. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took special care of it and urged the ummah a lot. In this connection, the hadith narrated by Hazrat Abu Umama (R.A.) is particularly significant, he said: “On the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: It never happened that Jibraeel (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me and did not order me to miswak. I was worried that (because of miswak) I would not have the tip of my face.”
Every work of man has the guidance of the Sunnah Nawabi. Miswak is an important Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Miswak has the benefit of this and the hereafter.
“Miswak is a means of cleansing the face and a means of pleasing Allah.” (Nasai Sharif, Hadith No. 5)
In another hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: The prayers performed by miswak have seventy times more virtues than the prayers without miswak.” (Shuabul Iman, Baihaqi, Hadith No. 2519)
Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said once on a Friday, “O Community of Muslims! Allah has made this day an ‘Eid for you, so take a bath and needfully brush your teeth with miswak (toothstick).”(Tabarani, Majma’uz-Zawaid)
Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “If somebody eats or drinks forgetfully then he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk, has been given to him by God. Miswak is purification for the mouth and it is a way of seeking the acceptance of Allah.”
Allamah Ibn Ismail says: “It surprises me how people could forgo such a great Sunnah, the significance of which many Ahadith of our Prophet (peace be upon him) explain. Remember that it is a great loss to neglect the miswak.”
Ibn Umar (R.A.) narrates that the Messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Make a regular practice of the miswak, for verily, it is healthy for the mouth and it is a Pleasure for the Creator (Allah is pleased with the Muslim who uses the miswak).” (Bukhari)
